
Last week, Traferox had the opportunity to welcome MP Fares Al Soud to our office in Mississauga.
The visit covered a lot of ground. MP Al Soud toured the space and met the team behind Traferox’s world-class organ preservation and assessment systems: the engineers, scientists, and clinical specialists working to bring technology developed at Toronto General Hospital to transplant programs across North America.
But the larger conversation was about the ecosystem surrounding us.
The Mississauga Centre riding has quietly become one of Canada’s most significant concentrations of medical technology and life sciences companies. The density of expertise here, in device development, regulatory affairs, manufacturing, and clinical research, reflects decades of deliberate investment in the region. With world-class research hospitals and clinical programs close by, the conditions for genuine Canadian leadership in the medical device space are already in place.
Traferox is one example of what that ecosystem can produce. Founded in 2021 as a spinout of University Health Network (UHN), the company commercializes its organ preservation and assessment technologies to make them available to transplant programs around the world. This work translates directly back into the community: well-paying positions across research, design, engineering, and manufacturing that give people room to build and advance their careers, and a growing economic contribution to the region that supports us.



Canada’s government programs and institutions, including Health Canada, have played a central role in building that foundation. The discussion with MP Al Soud was about how to deepen those partnerships further, and how closer collaboration between government and the medtech sector could help accelerate the path from Canadian innovation to clinical adoption, domestically and internationally.
For companies like Traferox, that kind of collaboration matters. The regulatory pathway, access to domestic clinical partners, and visibility for Canadian medical technology on the international stage all shape how quickly life-saving technology reaches patients.
We came away from the visit encouraged, and we look forward to continuing the conversation.
